Privacy

Plain words. Last updated 7 October 2026.

🔒 In one breath

CountMy keeps the records you write or say, and a little about your phone (country, network, app version) to fix problems. No account, no password, no Mobile Money PIN, no Ghana Card, no contacts, no GPS location. We do not sell or share your records. You can delete everything at any time.

The app (countmy.app)

Your sales, costs and debts are saved on your own phone. A safety copy is kept on our server under a secret code for your phone (or your business name, if you typed one), so it can come back to you if the phone is lost.

Inside Facebook, Instagram and other apps' own browsers CountMy does not use the microphone at all. Anywhere else, when you speak, the recording is sent once to be understood, then discarded. It is not kept, not listened to by a person, and not used to train anything. The words it heard can stay in our server's error logs for a few days, only to fix mistakes. On some days, when our speech service is full, your phone's own voice recogniser may listen instead, where the phone allows it (in Chrome on Android, that is Google's). Its own privacy terms apply. Only the words reach us then, not the recording. A photo of a receipt is read once to fill in the record, then discarded.

If you make a business page, the name, area, WhatsApp number and items you type in it are public, so customers can find you.

If you turn on the evening reminder, your phone's reminder address from Google or Apple is kept under the secret code for your phone, only to send that reminder. If you turn off CountMy's notifications or clear the site's data, it is removed at the next reminder.

We count taps and screens (which button was pressed, how long the page took to load) to fix what is broken, using Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Clarity also records how the screen is used (taps, scrolls); the places that show names and amounts, and what you type, are hidden. Meta's pixel tells Facebook when the page is opened and when someone taps the microphone, saves a record, asks a question, makes a business page or installs the app, so we only pay for adverts that help people. None of them receives your amounts, items or names.

Each time the app opens, it also sends us one label, tied to your phone's code, for what brought you back (the evening reminder, a WhatsApp link, a Keep link, the Talk button, Facebook or Instagram, or opening it directly). No amount or item goes with it. If you typed a business name, that name travels with it.

Cookies and storage

The app keeps a code for your phone, your records and a few settings in your browser's storage on your phone (localStorage and IndexedDB). Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Meta's pixel may also set cookies (such as _ga, _fbp, _clck and _clsk). They load only after the app is ready for use, Google Analytics after you close your first entry, and Meta's pixel only on phones that first arrived from Facebook or Instagram. On a slow line (2G, 3G or Data Saver) Google Analytics and Clarity do not load at all. None of them load on the CountMy team's own devices. You can clear cookies and site data at any time in your browser's settings; clearing site data also removes the records on your phone, so send yourself your records on WhatsApp first.

People who owe you

The names you write in Owes me are part of your own records, so they are kept like the rest: on your phone and in the safety copy. We keep them only so you can run your business. We never use them to contact anyone, and never share or sell them.

You can remove a person at any time: Who owes me, then Remove a name. Their name is removed from your phone and from the safety copy, including lines you crossed out before. If your book is also open in another browser, remove the name there too. If your name is written in someone's CountMy book and you want it removed, ask the person whose book it is to remove it. If you cannot reach them, message us on WhatsApp and we will try to reach them.

WhatsApp

If you send a voice note or a message to the CountMy WhatsApp number, the message is used to write your record and to reply with your totals. The voice note is discarded after it is understood. The words we heard are kept with your record until you send delete.

Your phone number is not stored. It is turned into a scrambled code, and your records are kept under that code. Only the people who run CountMy could match a number to its records, and we do not.

WhatsApp itself is run by Meta; their own terms apply to the messages on your phone.

Delete everything

In the app: the records on your phone go when you clear the site's data in your browser. To remove the safety copy, send us on WhatsApp the CountMy link from the WhatsApp message you sent yourself and, if you typed one, your business name; we remove it the same day, with your evening reminder. If you made a business page, send us its link too and we take it down the same day. On WhatsApp: send the single word delete to the CountMy number and everything kept for that number is removed at once, and you get a reply saying so.

Who can see your records

You, and anyone who gets the CountMy link from the WhatsApp message you sent yourself: that link opens your book, so do not forward it. The people who run CountMy look at records only to fix problems, and never share them.

Where it runs

Your safety copy and our server logs are kept by Cloudflare. Cloudflare also serves the pages. Google or Apple deliver the evening reminder. Speech is understood by Groq and Cloudflare, and Twi speech also by GhanaNLP; they process the recording to turn it into words; we do not keep it; their own terms apply to how long they may keep it. On days when our speech service is full, your phone's own recogniser (in Chrome on Android, Google's) may turn your speech into words before it reaches us. The app's spoken replies are made by Cloudflare from the words of the reply; only short phrases without numbers are kept, so they play faster.
